You are what you eat.

Every day, we make a multitude of decisions that affect our health and wellbeing.  Our diet choices are the most important factor influencing our health, and therefore our performance.

Real Health Sports Nutrition is designed to help people make informed choices when it comes to food and diet.  Our services are designed to change your approach to food, changing your mindset from food being an afterthought to being the beginning, middle and end.  No matter what your goals are, your nutrition choices are the foundation.

What is Sports Nutrition?

A sports nutritionist works with generally healthy, active people who want to prioritise their performance and health.

Sports Nutrition is the practice of improving athletic performance, changing body composition, and managing weight through the use of diet.  A sports nutritionist develops personalised nutrition plans that take into account your individual lifestyle, training goals and nutritional literacy.  Real Health Sports Nutrition is a member of the Sports Nutrition Association which regulates the industry to ensure a minimum standard of education, practice and insurance.

It's all about context

Real Health Sports Nutrition offers evidence-based and scientifically-informed nutritional strategies to optimise your health and help you achieve your goals.

There is so much information out there about good and bad foods, diets and health, it can sometimes be hard to know what are the right foods to eat.  The frustrating answer is that it depends - it depends on your gender, health status, age, body type, activity level, exercise type, goals, lifestyle, values, and so on.  There is no one approach that fits everyone.  But where does this leave you when it comes to your particular diet and your specific needs?

Personalised nutrition coaching will help you navigate the information and mis-information and improve your confidence when it comes to food choices.  Working with an Accredited Sports Nutritionist will help you understand which foods best support your specific goals and needs, and make sustainable changes (no yo-yo diets!).

Common problems facing athletes where engaging a sports nutritionist can help are:

  • Low energy availability, particularly for female athletes

  • Plateaued or declining performance e.g. failure to hit training targets or previous PRs

  • Repetitive sickness and/or injury

  • Unintended weight loss or weight gain

  • Fatigue, tiredness, poor ability to focus, low libido

  • Muscles not feeling recovered before it's time to train again

  • Food group intolerances or avoidances e.g. vegetarian, plant-based, low-carb

  • Gastrointestinal issues, particularly when training or racing.

A sports nutritionist can also provide race-day or event nutrition and hydration plans, nutritional advice to get the most out of your existing training programme, or generally advise you on simple dietary changes that can improve your energy levels, mood, wellbeing and health overall.
